Incomplete Applications
When you view a list of applicants, the default view is to show you only completed and active applicants. See here:
If you change the filter option you will be able to choose to see either:
- all completed applications
- all incomplete applications
Below you can see a list of incomplete applications.
hireful ATS offers the easiest application process we believe possible, without the pesky username/passwords, multiple additional pages for no reason or the need to verify emails. All of which are not unusual in most ATS and serve only to frustrate applicants and reduce the overall number of completed applications you receive. Despite our easy to apply process, your ATS will still gather incomplete applications.
There are several reasons why an applicant might not have completed their application. Here are a few of the common ones:
1. Application started by job board integration but not completed:
Here the applicant is logged into their preferred job board and finds a job they want to apply for. They can see in this example below from Reed that when they apply they will be redirected.
When they click they will see this redirect image.
Then when they get to the EasyWeb ATS application form, they will not see most of the questions on the pre-application form such as name, email, how did you hear about this role as we have this data already passed to from Reed (along with their CV).
If the applicant sees this screen and decides not to continue, their information is already stored in the system as an incomplete application.
2. Application started but not completed:
In this scenario the candidate starts their application but did not complete it. They might have just completed just the pre-application part of the form (see below) or they might have completed the entire form but then decided to save and complete it later (see below). Also, they could have lost internet connection, got distracted or some other random event happened which meant they did not complete the process.

3. Waiting on application to upload their CV via their mobile device.
The most common issue suffered by mobile job applicants is the difficulty they have in attaching their CV document to the application. The job board integration shown in example 1 which applies to Indeed, Reed, TotalJob and Jobsite (and shortly CV Library) has helped solve this issue, as applicants from these job boards have their CV uploaded automatically from the job board. However, a percentage of mobile applicants coming from other sources will struggle to attach their CV. These applicants will see this screen:
In this scenario we offer them the option to complete the form but have a link sent to them to attach their CV at a later date. Here is an example email that they would see:
This candidate would remain incomplete until they click the link and upload a copy of their CV.
4. Applicants who are rejected due to auto-reject questions
If you are using vacancy specific auto-reject questions, when applicants fail to answer them to the required level they will be shown an on-screen message similar to below and will be registered as an incomplete applicant.
Why we are not able to upgrade incomplete applicatiions with CVs to completed applications
In the past, some clients have asked us if it's possible to consider applicants where we have a CV but they have not completed their application, as complete applications. For example the above scenario 1 and sometimes scenario 2 applicants would also have a CV.
Whilst this might seem logical for some clients who are just keen to see more applicants. All applicants receive an email as soon as they start applying in case for any reason they don't complete their application (see example below). If we upgrade these applicants to a full application it means that the applicant cannot return to their application to provide more information as it is no longer incomplete.
